The following is information I had posted earlier regarding how exams will work. Re-read it, ESPECIALLY ITEM #9, how grading will work.
Here is the structure for how exams will work for the remainder of the semester.
1) The exams will be entirely multiple choice and short answer. All answers will be either right or wrong, no partial credit.
2) There will be on the order of forty or fifty (or more) items, likely more than could be finished in the time allotted.
Let me say that again: IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THERE WILL BE MORE PROBLEMS THAN YOU ARE ABLE TO FINISH IN THE ALLOTTED TIME. THAT IS BY DESIGN. It is unlikely that even the best student will be unable to answer all questions in the allotted time. You should work as many as you are able and do not fret that you might not have finished or even addressed all items. Again, this is by design.
3) A few days before the exam I will post on my web page a sample of what your answer sheet should look like. It will be VERY simple. If you wish and have access to a printer, you may print it, or you may simply write one up freehand. If you do this, try to make it resemble as closely as possible the sample answer sheet. If possible, please use unlined typing/printer paper, but this is not required.
4) On the exam date, WHICH WILL BE ANNOUNCED WITH AMPLE LEAD-TIME WARNING, I will post on my web page the exam at a predetermined time. For example, 11:00am on the 7th of Afteryule.
5) The exam will be ENTIRELY multiple choice and short answer. For multiple choice items, you MUST use ONLY CAPITAL LETTERS. ANY ANSWER WRITTEN IN LOWERCASE WILL BE MARKED INCORRECT.
6) When you finish, you will take a photograph of your answer sheet and email it to the yahoo email address for your specific class. These are:
8:00 MW Calculus I class: egleymath2413@yahoo.com
11:00 MW Pre Calc class: egleymath2412@yahoo.com
8:00 TTh Statistics class: egleymath1342@yahoo.com
11:00 TTh Trigonometry class: egleymath1316@yahoo.com
There will be a predetermined time, for example 12:45pm on the 7th of Afteryule, by which your email MUST be received. Yahoo places a time stamp on all emails, and it will be the official and final arbiter of whether your email was received by the deadline. This means that you must budget your time and you must allow sufficient time to photograph and send your email by the deadline. This is 100% YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. The determination of whether you are on time or late will be SOLELY the time stamp on the yahoo email system. DO NOT MAIL THE EXAM SHEET. SEND ONLY A PICTURE OF YOUR ANSWER SHEET.
7) Again, this email MUST come from your my.lonestar.com email address. NONE OTHER IS ACCEPTABLE, and the picture you send will be considered your official answer sheet.
8) . I will not send your corrected copy back. After the deadline, I will post the answer key. If you wish, you may check your specific answers against your hard copy, which you may retain.
9) GRADE SCALE: Read this CAREFULLY, perhaps even multiple times.
After grading all exams, scores will be put in order from greatest to least and I will determine at that time where the cut off is for A, B, C, D, and F. These cut boundaries will NOT NECESSARILLY correspond to 90%, 80%, etc. I will draw the lines WHEREVER THEY, IN MY JUDGEMENT, BELONG. My decision will be binding and final.
THIS MEANS: Your grade will be determined by where you score RELATIVE TO EVERYONE ELSE. This has an important consequence which you should understand: IF YOU ASSIST A CLASSMATE ON THEIR EXAM YOU ARE INCREASING THE CHANCE THAT YOU WILL BE LOWER RANKED THAN YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN. IT IS NOT IN YOUR INTEREST TO ASSIST ANOTHER STUDENT. YOU WILL BE HURTING YOURSELF.
Please read point #9 again so that you understand it.

Students,
You’ve received an email from the college vice president regarding classes with D2L. Rather than shifting to that system and restarting from scratch, I think I’m going to continue using the youtube videos I’ve been making so far. So, that is the plan for now.
Please keep up with watching and taking notes from the videos as usual. Also keep up with the assignments. Please email questions you have regarding the assignments to the yahoo email address set up for each class. Try to refrain from mailing them to my Lonestar.edu account since that fill up every day so fast it’s possible your question will fall through the cracks. Also, please try to communicate using your my.lonestar.edu email address.
I know all this isn’t ideal, and it definitely isn’t how I would have drawn things up in January, but we need to play the cards we’re dealt. Stay with me, work on keeping up, and hopefully we can get everybody through the semester. I’m still pondering the details of how exams will sort out. Don’t fret on that. I’ll keep you informed. Set your focus more on learning and not so much on grades.
One last item, the drop date has officially been delayed until May 1, so if you feel like that’s your better option, you have some extra time to get caught up and maybe salvage the semester.
Hang in there, guys. Stay safe and take care of yourselves.

Pep Talk:
I know that many of you are uncertain with how things are going to shake out, and there’s no way I can possibly know all the disruption that has occurred in each of your lives over the past several days. But as I mentioned Monday, one thing I want to commit myself to is trying to keep you from burning a semester. I know many of you have plans that involve you finishing this class this semester and progressing in the summer or fall. I’m going to try to help you make that happen. I don’t know yet (in fact, probably nobody does) precisely how that’s going to flesh out, but I’m going to give it a go. If it’s at all possible, don’t drop the class.
You’re going to need to bring some game. These are serious times and they call for seriousness to meet them. If this is going to happen, you’re going to need to be diligent, hard-working, and a self-starter. I know it’s tough, but try to focus on LEARNING more than on a grade. Trust me.
Today as I was folding laundry and listening to the news, a phrase came to my mind that I think would serve well: Due Caution, No Fear, Never Panic. I think if something like that had been everyone’s mantra, store shelves wouldn’t be empty and toilet paper memes wouldn’t be all over the internet.
Hang in there, and wash your hands.
