Information for SPCH 1311 – Intro to Speech Communication

There are some issues you need to consider for success in the online SPCH 1311 course. The main things to consider – the class is fully online so there is no requirement to come to campus or go to a testing center but this means you need consistent and daily access to the Internet; you have access to all assignments from the first day of the course so you can always work ahead; you will deliver one speech with at least five audience members required (or your speech will receive a “0”); and, you need to have the ability to record and upload your speech.  To record speeches, students use the web cams on their computers, some smart phone cameras (depending on the quality – you should test your camera to determine if it will work) or handheld digital cameras.  There are now many options for recording your speech, including the formation of a video group with some of your class mates.

I would not suggest that anyone take this class as their first attempt at online learning because of the technology requirements. You need to be comfortable with on line learning and be a self-motivator. If this describes you, then the class should work well for you.
