Dr Jeff Groah's SiteHistorical Documents 3
I wish to make available some of Samuel Kael Groah’s historical documents.
Sam had six children, only one of whom survived to produce an offspring.
Mamie Caroline Groah (b. 11 Nov 1871 m. 20 Jan 1896 d. 7 Apr 1899)
Frank Milton Groah (b. 19 Dec. 1873 m. 29 Dec 1896 d. 23 Dec 1935)
Janna (Jennie) Groah (b. 17 Sept 1876 d. 6 June 1878)
James Ulrich Groah (b. 5 Feb 1879 d. 2 Dec 1882)
Stacey C Groah (b. 11 June 1886 d. 28 Jan 1906)
Ethel C Groah (b. 23 Nov 1889 d. 25 Nov 1892)
The death of Sam’s wife Nancy came just 52 days after the birth of their last child, Ethel. One wonders if these events were related.
What happened to Sam’s daughter, Mamie Caroline Groah? She married a druggist, Edward Johnston. However, she did not end well. She was confined to a mental hospital where she died while very young.
Tragically, Sam’s son Stacey died of erysepelas.
I was told that this picture of Frank and Mary was taken on the shore of one of the Great Lakes in mid summer. They must have just come from church.
The announcement of Sam’s death in the Ohio Veteran’s Home was placed in the Sandusky Star newspaper.
