Here is some information about the course:

For this course, there will be 2 or 3 homework assignment deadlines per week. Each assignment will contain 10 to 50 problems.  You will also be taking quizzes that will be timed, so make sure that you have a good internet connection. These homework assignments and quizzes can be completed at home or wherever you are comfortable working on them. When taking an online quiz, you will have to close all other windows on your computer, or you will be locked out of the quiz. You can take each quiz more than once before its deadline, to improve your score.  I will start you all off with a practice quiz that will only count for extra credit, so that you can all see what I mean.  You must also submit a quiz each time you open it and after you complete it, even if you don’t complete it, or you will be locked out out of it as well. 

There will be three to five tests and a final exam, all of which must be taken at an approved proctored testing center. When you go to take a test, a photo ID will be required. There will be deadlines for these tests and the final exam as well. The tests and final exam will be timed. When taking an online test or final exam, you will have to close all other windows on your computer. If you do not, you will be locked out of the test. You will be provided with a study guide for each test. Make sure that you work out each study guide before you take each test.  Each test and the final exam must be taken on a weekday (Monday thru Friday), so make sure you are aware of the hours of the testing center that you will take the tests and the final exam at. 

A 4-function calculator will be allowed once we get to section 5.8 in the textbook and not before that.  You cannot use a cell phone or IPod as a calculator.

There will also be online discussions that will have deadlines, but we won’t necessarily all be online at the same time.

We will be using MyMathLab for the entire course, but we will start initially at the course homepage at LSC-Online, where you will get the syllabus and have a few other things to do before proceeding to MyMathLab. You have to purchase MyMathLab access either online at www.coursecompass.com and using the Course ID Code provided by me, or at a college bookstore.

Also, please realize that since you will not have the lecture/lab component of 12 hours per week as in a face-to-face summer class, it will be up to you to spend that time reading the textbook and watching the video lectures to learn the material. You should do this before attempting any homework assignments or quizzes. So you could potentially be spending at least 18 hours per week in this course. I do realize that some of the topics might be review for you, and some of them might not be review for you. In general, online courses are more difficult than face-to-face courses, as they require more self discipline and better time management skills.
