Here is some information about the course:

This is an 8-week course beginning 6/25/2012 and ending 8/19/2012.  For this course, there will be at least 3 or 4 homework assignments due per week. Each assignment will contain 10 to 20 problems.  You will also be taking quizzes that will be timed, so make sure that you have a good internet connection. These homework assignments and quizzes can be completed at home or wherever you are comfortable working on them.

There will be four tests and a final exam, all of which must be taken at an approved proctored testing center. You will have a test every other week, with the final exam in the 8th week.  When you go to take a test, a photo ID will be required. There will be deadlines for these tests and the final exam as well. The tests and final exam will be timed. When taking an online test or final exam, you will have to close all other windows on your computer. If you do not, you will be locked out of the test. You will be provided with a study guide for each test. Make sure that you work out each study guide before you take each test.  Each test and the final exam should be taken on a weekday (Monday thru Thursday), so make sure you are aware of the hours of operation of the testing center that you will take the tests and the final exam at.

Calculators will be allowed for this course, but you cannot use a cell phone or IPod as a calculator. If you use a graphing calculator, it must be a TI 83 or TI 84 model. 

There will also be online discussions that will have deadlines, but we won’t necessarily all be online at the same time.

Late assignments/discussions will not be accepted.  Quizzes, tests, and the final exam must be taken by their due dates and cannot be made up.  If you miss one test, your final exam grade will go in place of that missed test.  Any other missed test will be given a grade of zero, no exceptions.   

We will be using MyMathLab for the entire course, but we will start initially at the course homepage at LSC-Online, where you will get the syllabus and have a few other things to do before proceeding to MyMathLab. You will have to purchase MyMathLab.

Also, please realize that since you will not have the lecture/lab component of 8 hours per week as in a face-to-face 8-week course, it will be up to you to spend that time reading the textbook and watching the video lectures to learn the material. You should do this before attempting any homework assignments or quizzes. So you could potentially be spending at least  8-32 hours per week in this course. I do realize that some of the topics might be review for you, and some of them might not be review for you. In general, online courses are more difficult than face-to-face courses, as they require more self discipline and better time management skills.
