End of Semester

The end of the semester is just around the corner!  Thank you for making it yet another super semester at LSC-North Harris!

With final exams coming and final grades to be submitted soon, please remember the following important points:

  • Each class must have final exam. Our catalog states: “A final examination or evaluation activity will be given in each course at the end of each semester during the scheduled examination period unless the faculty member has made special arrangements with the appropriate vice president.”
  • The final exam for your class must follow the LSCS schedule. Variations from this schedule can only be made with permission of the Instructional Vice President.
  • “I” (Incomplete) grades are for emergency purposes near the end of the semester only. An “I” should not be given so that a student can reattempt a course.  A contract with the student should be made listing the specific items that were not completed and the due date for each.  All coursework must be completed by the end of the next long semester, or the grade automatically becomes an “F”.  Do not assign in “I” to a student who hopes to improve a grade.
  • An “IP” may only be given in a developmental class – and then only the proper conditions. In our division, that means only instructors of MATH 0306, MATH 0308, and MATH 0310 could assign a grade of “IP”.  Instructors in developmental classes should be clear on the conditions for assigning “F” and “IP” grades.
  • Submit your grade materials electronically. This semester we are introducing a new procedure that we hope will be easier, less expensive, and will kill fewer trees.  Look for the emails to come that will include detailed instructions.

Questions about any of these items can be answered by your department chair or me.
