The Learning Commons
Math Tutoring Policies

The Learning Commons provides math tutors to all LSC-Cy-Fair students who need support in their math courses.  The Learning Commons’ Tutorial Lab is open daily and the services provided by the tutors are free.  This service is provided for students at both the LSC-Fairbanks Center and the main campus.

The free tutorial service is offered by our Transitional Studies Department in an attempt to help our students achieve academic success.  If you have any questions concerning our tutorial services, please do not hesitate to email me.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENTS

• Bring your textbook, workbooks, calculators, and pencils to the tutorial session
• Bring your lecture notes, practice problems attempted, and scratch work to the tutorial session for the tutor to review
• Read and attempt your assignments before attending the tutorial session so that you are able to help your tutor identify mathematical concepts that you do not understand
• Visit the tutorial lab immediately after realizing that you do not understand a concept, an assignment, or a specific problem
• Discuss areas that you are not understanding with your professor so he/she can make suggestions to improve and increase the effectiveness of your tutorial sessions

WHAT TUTORS WILL DO

• Tutors will provide guidance, feedback, and suggestions to help you increase your mathematical skills, confidence, and abilities
• Tutors will provide additional practice problems when needed to enhance your learning experience
• Tutors will ask you questions that will help them get a better understanding of your mathematical needs and concerns
• Tutors will direct you to appropriate supplementary activities, tools, or other faculty and staff if needed to help you achieve success
• Tutors will keep your consultation confidential

WHAT TUTORS WILL NOT DO

• Tutors will not correct your assignment
• Tutors will not complete your assignment
• Tutors will not teach material (chapters, sections, assignments) that you missed due to excessive absences
