Tutorial Videos
In an effort to expand the use of instructor blogs (or websites) among faculty at Lone Star College, I am offering assistance to anyone who is interested in activating their own website within the LSC system. Whether you are full-time or adjunct, serving at University Park or any other campus, I am glad to help in any way I can. Just give me a shout!
Here is a series of short video tutorials to help get you started in setting up and adding content to your own Instructor site.
- Tutorial: Requesting your Blog
- Tutorial: Logging in the First Time
- Tutorial: Initial Site Configuration
- Tutorial: Adding a Page
- Tutorial: Adding a Post
- Tutorial: Changing your Theme
Here are the presentation slides from my Instructor Blog session presented at the Fall 2015 Faculty Day.
Lynda.com WordPress Training
If you were not already aware, our instructor blog platform is using a “limited” version of WordPress. Although, we don’t have the full WordPress feature set available to us, you can still publish most content to your blog without issue. Because we are using WordPress, there are many free training resources available on the Web. If you happen to use Lynda.com, which we get for free by the way as LSC faculty, you can find over 75 WordPress-focused courses available for your viewing pleasure. Granted, many of these are advanced courses and cover functionality that we don’t have (or necessarily need in our instructor blogs). In perusing that catalog, I’ve found the following specific videos that might be of interest to you:
- Using the WordPress admin panel
- Understanding Posts
- Post vs. Page
- Creating and editing links
- Adding images to posts and pages
This is just a sample of what is available on Lynda.com. Have a look for yourself and you will likely find other videos to watch.
If you haven’t used Lynda.com before (via LSC), the best way to reach these videos is to visit the lynda.com homepage and select “log in”, select “Organization Login” when prompted, and then type “lonestar.edu” into the “Or, enter your organization’s URL to log in…” field. Sign in with your Lone Star Login.
