Important announcement regarding Final Exam:

Rather than have two exams, Exam IIII and the Final Exam during the week of December 6 – 7, I am going to fold Exam IIII into the Final Exam. That is, there will be no “Exam IIII”. Instead, The Final Exam will take place on Wednesday, December 8. This exam will consist of items from Exam I, Exam II, and Exam III as well as items from the topics which would have been covered on Exam IIII, had there been one. The structure of the Final Exam will be similar to that of the previous exams – a set of multiple–choice items, possibly some short answer items, and a set of free response items. The overall length of the exam will be similar to that of the previous exams.

Additionally, there will be Zoom sessions on Monday, Dec 6 at 10:00am and Monday, Dec 6 at 1:00pm. These sessions will be similar to those held earlier in the semester. Students may ask any questions from the course they wish, and “attendance” at these virtual sessions is, as always, NOT mandatory.

Summarizing:
There will be no Exam IIII
The Final Exam will include topics from the previous three exams as well as items from the last batch of material covered in the course.
The Final Exam will be on Wednesday December 8.
There will be Zoom sessions on Monday, December 6 at 10:00am and 1:00pm, as usual.

SYLLABUS INFO
Syllabus is Here.
Note: Syllabus has been updated (Aug 30 3:45pm)
Syllabus Discussion Video
Note that in the above Syllabus Discussion Video, I say repeatedly the text is the 11th edition. But time hurries on, and this semester the class will use the 12th edition. I say again the 12th edition. The 12th edition.

TEXTBOOK INFO:

I got word today there might be a problem obtaining the text through the school bookstore. I’ll keep you informed if I am told anything new.

There appears there was a snag obtaining the e-book. I have rewritten (12:30, Sept 1) the document with all updated information. The course ID information contained in the document is now correct. it is: spalding20592

For updated (Sept 1) instructions on how to access the e-book for the course, follow this link.

Note that the instructor’s name you will use (and you should be so lucky) is spalding not egley. Don’t worry about that, just follow exactly the instructions there.

ZOOM MEETINGS INFO
The plan is to have Zoom meetings using this schedule (all times are Houston time):
Monday at 10:00am – 11:20am and 1:00pm – 2:20pm. You may attend EITHER, BOTH, or NEITHER of these meetings as you desire or need.
Typically the purpose of these meetings will be to ask questions about homework.
Since I haven’t purchased the augmented Zoom capability, the meeting will be interrupted after 40 minutes.
If/when that happens, I’ll simply re-set the meeting and you can just re-enter it using the same link and info.
If there is some sort of technical glitch, look to this page for communication.

GUIDLINES FOR ZOOM MEETINGS:
* The structure of the meetings is rather like recitations at university – that is, they are to give you the chance to ask questions on homework items and on topics covered in the video lessons.
* Understand that “attendance” at these Zoom meetings is absolutely voluntary. If you have no questions, you need not “attend”. If you have only one or two questions, you may ask them and leave if you wish. If you wish to simply listen to questions asked by others (as we used to say in grad school, “mooch of other peoples’ questions”) you are welcome to do that.
* Note that if I start the session and there are no students, I will wait for ten minutes of so and if no one shows in that time, the session will end. Also, if after answering questions for, say thirty or forty minutes for example, and there are no more questions, the session will end.

Following this link should work for all the meetings for the semester.

If all is working well, all you’ll need to do is click on the link above.
In case you need it, the Meeting ID and Password are below:
Meeting ID: 744 259 1725
Password: calc2

(Yeah, that’s a bit of a weird password, but I set up that portion over the summer and I’m just leaving it the same.)
