With the new year, I’ve decided to take on a challenge to read a book every week of the year–52 books over 52 weeks. On it’s surface, its not much of a challenge to an English professor, whose career circles literature and reading. However, in looking at my bookcase and exponentially growing book collection, I realized that I was only reading when I found time. And in the midst of grading and my other campus obligations, reading would be relegated to holiday breaks and the summer.

So I decided that I needed to make reading a more consistent part of my day, if not my week. Hence my challenge to myself to read a book a week. Sometimes the books will be novellas, sometimes longer tomes. I’m interpreting book in a rather broad form, so that any physical text that sits on my shelf and has not been read will count. I’ll range across genres, all in an effort to make sure I’m reading on a consistent basis.

Blogging here, publicly, will keep me committed. I’ll cover my reasons for selecting each book, followed by a review of varying lengths. So let the reading begin:
