Italy Summer Study Abroad 2020

Italy 2020: “Collegio con Vista” (college with a view) This is a field study program and project-based course for students interested in mapping environmental and cultural resources in the Campania region of Southern Italy.
GISC 1491 Special Topics in Cartography (4 cr/hr) This course will focus on applications of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) aerial mapping and remote sensing. Students are introduced to geospatial technology and fieldwork methods and will assist in mapping various sites in southern Italy.
Who is this program for?
This program is for students interested in Geography (GEOG), Anthropology/Archaeology (ANTH), Geographic Information Systems (GISC), and Geo/Environmental Sciences (ENVR). Students will learn to use drone aerial mapping technology (photogrammetry) and field data acquisition methods broadly applicable to a variety of disciplines that utilize spatial analysis. This is a unique hands-on opportunity to experience field-based research and work alongside international research teams on environmental and cultural resource mapping projects.
Travel Itinerary: In addition to fieldwork, students will also experience the following:
- Visit the scenic seaside towns of Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast
- Hike Mt. Vesuvius National Park and cable up Monte Faito (two highest points in the Gulf of Naples region)
- Explore the archaeology cites of Pompeii and Herculaneum
- Visit historic Naples, Rome and the Vatican
Dates: 7 week Summer program – May 11 – June 25, 2020 (Classroom/Travel)
Week 1 & 2: M/T/W/Th/F 9:00am-11:50am (LSC-CF Campus, CASA 222)
Week 3-5: Italy Travel
Week 6 & 7: M/T/W/Th 9:00am-11:50am (LSC-CF Campus, CASA 222)*Italy Travel: 14 Days Abroad – May 28-June 11
Castellammare di Stabia, Italy (10 nights)
Rome, Italy: (3 nights)*travel dates subject to change based on airline group travel availability
Program Courses: Students earn 5 credit hours

PHED 1164 Introduction to Physical Fitness and Wellness (1 cr/hr)Note: the program is an integrated leaning community – students enroll in both sections
Cost: $2,975 (air/ground transportation, lodging, meals, and activities).
Cost w/ Scholarship: $1,375
Note: Program cost does NOT include tuition (5 cr/hr)
Deadline to Apply: February 28, 2020 (payment in full due March 25, 2020)
Deposit: $500 deposit due at the time of application to secure space in the program.
Program Cap: 8 Students (space is limited)
